[ sam approaches carefully, her knife within reach. she trusts yelena, but can remember the details of some of the murders - they were caught off guard, didn’t have time to fight back. she doesn’t want to be left unprepared.
she relaxes once yelena emerges, offering a tiny, exhausted smile of her own. ]
Yeah, of course. [ she offers a hug if yelena will take it. ] What’s going on?
[ Yelena does take the hug, her palm tapping lightly over Sam's shoulder. It has been too rough a week — weekend? Has it really only been a few days? — to turn down any comfort. ]
It's about Misty Quigley. [ She says when the hug is over. ] She's new to us but not to others.
[ she hugs back tight, giving a little squeeze before pulling back. it's true, the days have been intense and exhausting, and she's glad to see yelena's safe, or as close to it as anyone can be in the commune.
pulling back, she frowns a little at the mention of misty. she only knows her through the network and recently, as a teammate, but she's not surprised her name's being brought up. she's made a pretty big impression, in and out of the spades. ]
I've seen them, yeah. I think we arrived around the same time.
[ Yelena nods. The girls — namely Misty — have not been discreet. Counting on the cover of chaos, she assumes. ]
I have it from a trusted source that the Diamonds poisoning points back to Misty. [ A beat. ] Wait, I can back up — did you know Ren on the Diamonds team was poisoned?
Yeah, she called it food poisoning. [ A beat, then Yelena shrugs. ] Which is technically true, her food was poisoned.
A doctor from my world treated Ren for foxglove poisoning at Koby's. He learned that Misty had asked Koby about toxic plants before the game started, and he'd told her about foxglove. Misty also asked about the necromancer role and if Koby would believe what the necromancer said even if it implicated him.
So we think that she definitely poisoned Ren and is most likely lying about speaking to Castiel. And it looks like she's been planning this.
[ it’s a lot to take in. sam absorbs it quietly, arms crossed as she considers. she doesn’t know misty well, but she’s seen how she operates. it doesn’t seem like behavior that’s out of line for her.
the rest of the team, she’s not sure. they seem less interested in the game and more interested in survival. based on what she knows about them, it makes sense. ]
Do you think it was just her? [ lying about castiel is odd, too, but she’s been trying to make herself vital to the spades. the team seems to be deferring to her now that there’s an adult in the picture. it’s not a thing she’d put past her. ]
